The Regina Humane Society is pleased to introduce “Barn Buddies”. This new pilot project will provide cats previously considered “unadoptable” due to behavioral issues the opportunity to live in selected rural farm, barn, or shop situations.
The Society does not adopt cats who are suitable to be house pets through this program. Only cats without other options are eligible to be in the Barn Buddy program. If you have a working barn or safe, heated outbuilding, there are cats that desperately need you. Barn Buddy cats will help keep down the rodent population. The cats will be helping you and you will be helping them by providing them with a safe place to live.
All cats available for adoption through the Barn Buddies program are spayed/neutered, health checked and vaccinated by the Regina Humane Society.
Donations are always appreciated; however, the cats will be available at no cost to individuals who offer them the opportunity to live in a rural, farm or shop environment and agree to provide:
- shelter in barns, buildings, or stables
- daily food and water - cats cannot live on mousing alone
- long-term veterinary care, if needed and as required
- a secure place to keep them for the first 2-3 weeks, while they acclimate to their surroundings
Since space at the Shelter is limited, adopters are expected to pick up their new Barn Buddy cat within 24 hours of being contacted.
Last year over 5,300 pets were cared for by the Regina Humane Society. Fortunately, a record number of adoptions were made. The Barn Buddies program will ensure even more of the animals that the Society helps are going on to lead happy lives.
